The Benefits of Going NUDE

Stay tuned…Corporate Fashionista (formerly MooreOnStyle) has some new features that will be uploaded very soon!

In the meantime, here is a summer fashion trend that is sure to give you lots of exposure. First and foremost, don’t be afraid of going NUDE! Really, it’s OK. Fortunately, there are a multitude of nude options this year. And one can still stay ahead of the fashion curve with showing only partial nudity.

In theory, the color nude refers to various neutral color palettes that resemble the color of one’s skin. We are so lucky because there is such diversity in skin tones today. By nature our skin tone consists of more than one color. This allows us the opportunity to highlight and bring forth these various shades. This fact undoubtedly seems to have inspired so many of the designers to create and display a plethora of various interpretations of the color nude that were all so beautifully displayed in the Spring/Summer 2009 Collections.

A considerable benefit to going NUDE is that it offers a much more flattering range of color than the ever so popular summer color of white. Oftentimes, white can actually make the skin appear more sallow while the right shade of nude can really enliven your complexion and make it radiate. Although rules are meant to be broken, a general rule of thumb is that my readers with a paler skin tone should wear a lighter nude hue while those of you with a darker skin tone would benefit best with a darker nude shade. Besides, don’t you find that the color white starts to look a little grimy by the end of the day?!

Tomas Maier created an exquisite S/S 2009 collection for Bottega Veneta. The range of hues in nude incorporated with his ready-to-wear designs was breathtaking – each one more beautiful than next! Here are some samples of that Collection:

Another benefit to going nude it is an easy answer to the age old question, “Yeah, it’s beautiful but what shoes and handbag do I wear with it?”. If you want to go for partial nudity instead, nude colored accessories allow for them to much more easily compliment an outfit rather than distract and take away from it. A much desired feature of going nude with your accessories is that the right shade of nude colored shoes will make your legs look really long while a nude colored handbag will not divert viewer’s eyes from the outfit as the main attraction in an ensemble. Here are some wonderful examples executed by the talented Phillip Lim, Derek Lam and once again Tomas Maier of Bottega Veneta:

Let’s not forget that we can go all NUDE on our face, too! No, that doesn’t mean we need to forgo makeup. It simply means that we can incorporate this trend with the selection of colors we choose to wear on our face during the warm summer months. A nude makeup palette gives the immediate impression of fresh, clean and healthy skin. Derek Lam provided some inspiration while showcasing his admirable S/S 2009 collection. Here are some samples:

It was so visually stimulating to view the ways in which both Peter Som and Angela Missoni for the Missoni label combined various nude shades with metallic sheen fabrics. The outfits have a subtle yet sophisticated luster that glistens and becomes extremely inviting to observers. See how it’s done:

And let’s not forget that a distinct and explicit benefit to experimenting with the NUDE trend this summer is the fact that the overall/vast family of nude colors immediately displays a soothing and relaxed impression which instinctually encourages you to feel that way too. And isn’t that what the summer is suppose to be about? So, don’t be afraid to go NUDE! You owe it yourself!

How would you feel going NUDE this summer? Your feedback is valuable!
